Report: Icebound Forest,
User Days 2024
On April 17–18 of this year, we at Icebound had the pleasure of hosting and enjoying this year’s user days for some of our forestry clients. About 40 participants from all over Sweden gathered in the lovely setting of Hotell Kristina in Sigtuna. Product presentations and demonstrations were interspersed with creative discussions and pleasant socializing—as usual. Here, we’ll share a bit about what we experienced together.
Icebound’s forestry offerings are growing by leaps and bounds, both in scope and in the number of customers. Our product suite for the forestry industry—Icebound Forest—is helping to lead the way and guide our customers in the right direction. This is especially evident at times like these. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our fantastic customers for the dialogue that’s moving us all forward—in leaps and bounds.
A BROADER OFFERING – Day 1
Icebound’s vision is to support the forestry industry throughout the entire process, from “seedling to lumber.” This is reflected in our offering and its breadth. This year’s user days were primarily aimed at our customers in forestry planning and production. The focus was on products such as ForestPlan, TimberTrack, and our newest addition—Efficture.
The first day featured demonstrations of TimberTrack—production planning, GROT management from the forest to the contractor, and a showcase of how we integrate VIOL3 into our suite. Icebound is ready to offer VIOL3 compatibility. We are following the development plan and conducting live tests. Another interesting and now more appreciated feature is our Natural Value Assessment and capabilities for environmental inventories. We simplify the process, helping customers do things “right.” The day concluded with a wonderful dinner and productive discussions in a pleasant setting.
THE FUTURE IS ALREADY HERE – Day 2
Day two began with a presentation by our friend Rickard Lund, who walked us through harvesting calculations. We then had the opportunity to demonstrate how we currently use AI, machine learning, and remote sensing to produce the baseline data and maps our customers need to work efficiently. We also took the opportunity to explain our view on automated planning. Like some market players, we will offer every possible technology to facilitate future planning work, but we’re cautious about completely replacing the human factor. Our automated planning tool will streamline fieldwork and improve quality. We promise that. However, a visit to the forest will sometimes be necessary to refine models and correct results.
We at Icebound also had the opportunity to explain and demonstrate how we incorporate various management methods into our software. We adapted ForestPlan, among other tools, for continuous cover forestry early on. Icebound is actively involved in shaping the future of forestry in various ways. Although we currently—and historically—work mostly using traditional methods, we already have customers who have chosen a different path. Concepts such as forest management plans and continuous cover forestry are becoming increasingly common in our industry.
A large number of participants also chose to attend our demonstration of our latest acquisition, Efficture—a powerful and user-friendly cloud-based timber management system designed to efficiently handle the procurement of forest raw materials and related activities. Many are interested in this initiative and in our integration of it into Icebound’s product portfolio.
THANK YOU FOR THIS YEAR!
This year’s User Days, like those in previous years, give us—as a supplier—a great deal of energy and insight into how we should move forward. It is through close relationships with our customers that we build a shared future.
Thank you for this year’s User Days. See you again!
